[How to use] Alola-Marowak
Alola-Marowak was one of few Pokemons that received a regional difference and is debatably one of the best ones. Its new type is shared with the Chandelure family. And as such, comes with some useful attributes. Counting its ability Lightning Rod, this Pokemon has 3 Immunities (Normal, Fighting, Electric). The ability to not get burnt because of its new type is a much added plus. And checks many key types this generation such as Bug, Steel and Fairy. This is one of your best checks to many of the Ultra Beasts, especially Pheromosa since Pheromosa doesn't have any options that is super-effective to Alola-Marowak, not counting Hidden Power type moves. And is also a good check to most of the Tapus, most notably, Tapu Koko. As such, Marowak is considered an anti-meta Pokemon.
These traits aren't without its weaknesses. First off and most glaringly, Alola-Marowak is slow. Which shouldn't be too big of an issue if you invest some EVs in its Defenses. It's HP and Sp.Defense are average at best. Lightning Rod boosts Sp.Attack which you won't really find yourself using on this Pokemon, you'd just be using it for an added immunity. And lastly, it's very reliant on Thick Club to do reliable damage. As such it's almost a requirement to use Thick Club in almost every given scenario. Regardless of these weaknesses, Alola-Marowak is still rather good.
Ghost/Fire
Abilities: Cursed Body, Lightning Rod, Rock Head
Possible Items: Thick Club, Leftovers
Common Moves:
Bonemerang
Earthquake
Fire Punch
Flare Blitz
Flame Charge
Knock Off
Stealth Rock
Substitute
Swords Dance
Will-O-Wisp
Sets:
Swords Dance Marowak
@Thick Club (Lightning Rod/Rock Head)
-Flare Blitz
-Shadow Bone
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake/Bonemerang
Aside from investing in Attack, I like to invest in HP and Defense or Sp.Defense.
Offensive Marowak
@Thick Club (Lightning Rod/Rock Head)
-Flare Blitz
-Shadow Bone
-Will-o-Wisp
-Earthquake/Bonemerang
The one I prefer using the most.
Defensive Marowak
@Leftovers (Lightning Rod)
-Stealth Rock
-Knock Off
-Shadow Bone/Fire Punch
-Will-o-Wisp
I would recommend most of the EV investment to be in Sp.Defense on this one. Rest/Sleep Talk can also work using this set.
Flame Charge can be an interesting option but you won't get much mileage without some Speed investment and only after being used twice. Trick Room is an option that's much more easier to pull off with Alola-Marowak. Bonemerang and Earthquake is up to preference. Bonemerang is a base 50 Ground moves but attacks twice so it has the same base power as Earthquake, although it has a 10% chance to miss. Being that it hits twice, it can break a sub and then strike a second time or offer a higher possibility of criting.
