The Doors of Chaos Have Been Opened - Black Luster Soldier Archetype

Hello hello MADA goers and any guests who may be browsing the site. I didn't see any threads for this yet here, so I'm brining the news about the new Black Luster Soldier and Gaia the Fierce Knight support cards. That's right, some old fan favourites are back and they've brought some reinforcements (of the army.)

Let's waste no time and jump right into it.

First up, is the obvious one, "Supreme Black Luster Soldier."

Chousenshi Chaos Soldier / Supreme Black Luster Soldier
Level 8 EARTH Warrior-Type Ritual Effect Monster
ATK 3000
DEF 2500
Can be Ritual Summoned with “Supreme Warrior Ritual”. You can only Special Summon “Supreme Black Luster Soldier(s)” once per turn.
(1) If this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monster’s original ATK.
(2) If this card is destroyed by battle or an opponent’s card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 “Gaia the Fierce Knight” monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard.

This guy is a Ritual version of "Elemental HERO Flame Wingman" but seriously stronger. Some of you may find his last effect a bit lackluster but once you read on you'll understand.

The new Ritual Spell: Supreme Warrior Ritual

Chousenshi no Gishiki / Supreme Warrior Ritual
Ritual Spell Card
Can be used to Ritual Summon a “Black Luster Soldier” Ritual Monster. You can only use the (2) effect of “Supreme Warrior Ritual” once per turn.
(1) Tribute monsters from your hand or field whose combined Levels equal 8, then Ritual Summon 1 “Black Luster Soldier” Ritual Monster from your hand.
(2) You can banish this card, 1 LIGHT monster, and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon 1 “Black Luster Soldier” Ritual Monster from your hand, ignoring the Summoning conditions. You cannot activate this effect during the turn this card is sent to the Graveyard.

So this little beauty can summon "Supreme Black Luster Soldier" and "Black Luster Soldier." Not half bad huh? And you banish this card, and a LIGHT and a DARK monster from your Graveyard to summon either of them. Getting better and better.

Now, for those who wondered about the new Soldier's last effect, here's the new card to help answer that: Galloping Gaia the Fierce Knight

Shissou no Ankokukishi Gaia / Galloping Gaia the Fierce Knight
Level 7 LIGHT Warrior-Type Effect Monster
ATK 2300
DEF 2100
You can only use the (3) effect of “Galloping Gaia the Fierce Knight” once per turn.
(1) You can Normal Summon this card without Tributing monsters.
(2) If this card was Normal Summoned with no Tributes its original ATK becomes 1900.
(3) If this card is Tributed: You can add 1 “Black Luster Soldier” monster from your Deck to your hand.

Anyone who read the original YuGiOh manga and/or watched the first series anime will understand the relation between Gaia and BLS, so their effects playing off each other is no surprise."Supreme Black Luster" can SS "Galloping Gaia the Fierce Knight," and in turn, "Galloping Gaia the Fierce Knight" can fetch a "Black Luster Soldier" monster. This guy's also LIGHt, which is a nice reflection of "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight" as well as the V-Jump promo "Awakened Gaia the Fierce Knight" but more of that card when we know more.

Now for BLS's own little Polar Knights

Kaibyaku no Kishi / Knight of the Beginning (Pictured on the RIGHT)
Level 4 LIGHT Warrior-Type Effect Monster
ATK 500
DEF 2000
You can only use each effect of “Knight of the Beginning” once per turn.
(1) A “Black Luster Soldier” monster Ritual Summoned using this card gains the following effects.
• Once per turn: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it.
• When this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: You can have this card attack once more in a row.
(2) If this card is banished from your Graveyard: You can add 1 Ritual Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.

Yoiyami no Kishi / Knight of the Evening Twilight (Pictured on the LEFT)
Dark Warrior / Effect
Level 4 DARK Warrior-Type Effect Monster
You can only use each effect of “Knight of the Evening Twilight” once per turn.
(1) A “Black Luster Soldier” monster Ritual Summoned using this card gains the following effects.
• Once per turn: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it.
• Once per turn: You can banish 1 random card from your opponent’s hand, face-down, until your opponent’s End Phase.
(2) If this card is banished from your Graveyard; You can add 1 Ritual Monster from your Deck to your hand.

Similar to the "Djinn of Ritual" cards, but these only apply to Black Luster Soldier ritual monsters. These guys look like chibi versions of the BLS Envoys and can grant the Rituals the same effects as their respective Envoy.

Now, as a tease, here's the little we know about "Awakened Gaia the Fierce Knight" and the new effect monster, "Sacred Warrior Black Luster Soldier."

I guess we should have seen something like this coming when we got "Skilled Blue Magician." Personally I'm looking forward to getting these cards and hope they're as good as they look. What do you guys think about these new cards? WIll "Black Luster Soldier" be a competitive deck? Is this just a fan-appeasing archetype? Is this perhaps related to the upcoming YuGiOh movie featuring Yugi and Kaiba? Will we see a new "Curse of Dragon" and/or "Gaia the Dragon Champion?"

We shall see!

Technically you covered the V Jump where the inital bit is found, but this was only focused on the BLS support, none of the other cards.

i honestly think this arhcetype is cool and i wanna try it out, however i cant help but hope for a chaos emperor dragon archetype, that card has sentimental value to me and it would be amazing if they could make an archetype based around it really (could work alongside chaos dragon great most likely)

The only reason (I think) that Soldier even got one is because he was a retrained version of a former card. Far as I know, CED-EotE is a stand alone monster, but who knows?

Personally I would like to see a new "Curse of Dragon" monster for this as well. Gaia, Curse and Soldier, all as a big archetype together...would be quite awesome.
