Post by Administrator Fri Mar 27, 2015 11:49 am

So well, I'm back on track and I have managed to Rank 1st in Canada. It was a fun championship while it lasted, I ended up getting DQ'ed for the last 10 matches because I showed up late to the final rounds~ Didn't think I's make the cut after, but right now I'm at slot 49 in the world because I wan't able to battle my last 10. I'm really satisfied with 1st in Canada for now. A big thank you to シンジ, a friend from Yamaguchi-Japan for giving the my main team member which I used as a lead into the match 90% of matches.

Ranked 1st in the Country Empty Re: Ranked 1st in the Country

Post by Administrator Fri Mar 27, 2015 2:18 pm

My Team Report:
In This tournament I was allowed to use any Pokemon from the National Dex (including Legends but only two) and I was only permitted four Pokemon in my team.

Ranked 1st in the Country S3Q2kis
Darkrai @ Focus Sash
Bad Dreams
- Dark Void
- Dark Pulse
- Focus Blast
- Protect

Darkrai was essential to my team, Dark Void was the main reason I chose to use it. It was very helpful in all of my matches and has won me all of them. The reason it was very versatile was because I chose to operate it with a Focus Sash, it was able to resist so many attacks due to the protect. Protect was a great mind game because Mawile and Kangaskhan users could easily KO it by using Fake-Out. I used Focus Blast instead of Ice Beam because many players expect Ice Beam to be in a Darkrai Moveset, so they would usually send out some kind of Rock or Steel type in. With Focus Blast I was able to catch my opponents of guard and gain great momentum.

Ranked 1st in the Country TphUWW1
Kyogre @ Blue Orb
Drizzle (Primordial Sea in Mega)
- Origin Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
- Protect

Now, originally I decided to use Xerneas because I was afraid of wide-guard users such as Aegislash. Then, however, I studied the last couple of tournaments and found out that wide-guard isn't as popular in this championship series. This is why I chose to go for the Kyogre. It went through many edits in it's moves, I wanted to use Water spout first and switch it out for the Origin Pulse, that way, I wouldn't have to worry about the 25% chance of missing, but then doing all the calculations (Current HP * 150) Kygore would only be able to 1 hit KO at 90% Hit Points or above which is very bad. With a Water typing it was meant to be a wall because electric/grass types aren't very common in VGC. Since it was meant to take attacks I went for the Origin Pulse because it does 110 Damage no matter what, plus 50% due to STAB boosts, plus the 50% Primal Reversion Rain caused by the Blue Orb it would do 220 base damage while Water Spout would still depend of off the HP and at a Max of 300 at full HP it was originally my 1st choice but then after taking 1 move the base would decrease to about 60% of the original which is very bad. Protect and Ice mean are there just to get some extra damage off, and besides Protect is a great mind game tool. And of course, Thunder never misses during the rainy weather due to Primal Reversions effect and as a bonus it even has a 30% chance of piercing through protect, and it hits Pokemon that use fly and leave the field.

Ranked 1st in the Country XdEobmY
Latios @ Latiosite
Levitate
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Tailwind
- Protect

Latios was my teams main engine, it's Tailwind boosted the speed of all my Pokemon for the next 5 turns by three levels. That way, even slower 305 Speed Kyogre would be able to boost at 500+ speed. I would be able to evade speed ties and possibly get Dark Voided by opponents Darkrais because I would always attack first. It's Defense and Special Defense is amazing as well, allowing it to survive a Dragon Pulse from Mega Rayquaza with 15HP. Then there's it's Draco Meteor which is able to 1HKO almost anything on the field and Psychic just picks up some damage and is effective against many common types.

Ranked 1st in the Country PSlLWzK
Meowstic @ Leftovers
Prankster
- Psychic
- Thunder Wave
- Swagger
- Protect

There's not much to say about this Pokemon, using it's prankster ability all of its status attacks hit first and it has helped me so much against trick room teams. Pokemon like Rayquaza and opposing Mawiles have taken so much damage throughout, I was even able to survive Suicunes tailwinds because of the Thunder waves slowing them down!
_____________________________________________________________________________
I have thought for about three weeks and trained this team to perfection to get it this far, now that I've gotten my Rank as first in Canada, I'm looking forward to go to even more championships and possibly enter nationals!

Post by Rea Fri Mar 27, 2015 9:06 pm

One thing to say: most unusual darkrai ever seen, pretty much every darkrai ever alive has dream eater but that's irrelevant, what I want to know is how did you compensate for focus blasts very meh(its like what, 75% accuracy) Accuracy?

and that kyogre, I have been waiting for someone to come up with that exact set(minus the protect), almost decided to do it myself but couldn't remember if kyogre could use thunder.

I didn't even know latios could be used as a semi tank. .-.

that meowstic sounds aggravating, but wouldn't an equal speed prankster taunt kinda kill the set?
the first thing that comes to mind is whimsicott but I don't think it can learn taunt and cant take a hit to save its life.
of course I don't think a speedy taunt tank could really exist.
other than that your teams looks overpowered as heck .-.
...
I lost my train of thought...

@Xavier:
I'm a player that likes to find new ways to play, I mean players expect the usual, I like to go for the unusual which works out 99% of the time. And the results reflect it, 19 wins and 1 loss is very good.

meh, i dont battle any one outside of pokemon showdown but my showdown team is this

greninja
moveset
-blizzard
-water pulse
-grass knot
-dark pulse
he has the ability protean and has been EV trained with 4 in HP 252 special attack and 252 extra in speed, i dont know what item to give him but he is my only succesfull sweeper so far

charizard
moveset
-dragon claw
-dragon dance
-flare blitz
-protect
blaze ability but equiped with charizardite X so when he mega evolves he gets though claws (i think it was) and he is as you can see my physical sweeper, EV trained exactly like greninja but with physical attack instead of special attack, i usually open with him to either manage to take down 1-2 enemies or just have him imediatly die ._. im thinking about replacing him probably with garchomp but im not sure, according to the complicated equtation you gave me his flare blitz apperently does a LOT of damage

giratina
moveset
-protect
-rest
-dragon tail
-shadow ball
i dont know what to equip him with and he have 252 EV training in defence and HP while he has 4 in sp. defence, i dont know what is more common special or physical attacks but he is the only thing that has kept me from loosing so far and is my only good pokemon

altaria
moveset
-roost
-rest
-protect
-dragon breath
altaria is speced the same but swap place on sp. defence and defence, dont know what to give him for item

rotom-wash
moveset
-confuse ray
-discharge
-foul play
-hydro pump
128 extra HP and sp. atk and 128 extra health and 252 extra speed, i dont know what item to give him and his purpose is to anoy people with confusing and such

klefki
moveset
-draining kiss
-foul play
-light screen
-magnet rise
now i had absolutely no idea what to do with a klefki so i did this and gave him leftovers and EV trained him like this 248 HP, 252 defence and 8 sp. atk

i know for a fact that my team is bad but please tell me something i can to to fix it :/ thank you for your time either way

@menial:
Maybe try VG only, Showdown isn't really something I can help you with. I don't play it, the official VG is what I might be able to help you with better, but you can try:

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Solar Power
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Dragon Dance
- Protect
Charizard is a fine attacker in the official VGC, however, it's greatest weakness is the Dragon Dance, and of course the loss of it's flying typing. It needs a lot of support, try to not Mega Evolve before you use Dragon Dance, and if you're going to use Protect while Charizard hasn't Mega Evolved yet, keep it that way, try to not give away any information until you really need to. Moves like Earth Power and E-Quake can 1HKO very easily, while it's still in Fire Flying, you can evade those.

Ranked 1st in the Country Empty Re: Ranked 1st in the Country

Post by Administrator Sat Mar 28, 2015 9:32 pm

This is generally what I would go for in Singles with those Pokemon:

Ranked 1st in the Country UPHohWY
Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Dark Pulse
This is a pretty standard set, it works the best with a Life Orb because of the variety of types in can hit for x4 damage. You can keep the Dragon Pulse, but I recommend the meteor for two reasons: 1.) It's got an amazing base of 130 and with Life Orb it 1HKO's most of the format easily if the move is effective. 2.) It can be used in multiple situations, even if not super effective and can still 1HKO. Dark Pulse is simply better than Flash Cannon because of the fact that the STAB + Life Orb is able to hit for a lot of Damage. And you do want to be able to hit Cresselia before it KO's you with Ice Beam. And it's nice to have a flinch rate with that as well.

Ranked 1st in the Country QTi9t75
Landorus-T @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
- Rock Slide
- Hammer Arm
- Earthquake
- U Turn
Landorus-T is a great attacking weapon with a great speed (when Scarfed) and a high offence. For singles Hammer Arm works a bit better than any move because it's able to hit Ice Types and Deal with Trick-Room at the same time, but Stone Edge is better off being replaced because of Rock Slide's better accuracy and flinch-factor.

Ranked 1st in the Country 7waM8oD
Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt
- Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash
Ice-P is able to hit Ground and Grass types a lot better, it's a sacrifice of offence, but strategically it works out very well. Especially against Opposing Landorus.

Ranked 1st in the Country Vy6kw0i
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet / Leftovers
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Sandstorm / Toxic
- Protect
This Pokemon really depends on how you want to have it, either way, it's a great annoyance and drains the life of any Pokemon easily!

Ranked 1st in the Country 6BhquUq
Chandelure @ Assault Vest
Ability: Infiltrator
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Psychic
Now this is something more offensive, but at the same time very defensive. If your opponent tries to push any special attacker at you, this should do the job just fine. Its moves allow to hit many types for effective damage, and its item sweetens the deal by making it a wall.

Ranked 1st in the Country VaX1wRF
Blaziken @ Scope Lens (Impish Nature)
Ability: Speed Boost
- Superpower
- Overheat
- Substitute
- Focus Energy
This is one I would definitely recommend (if you can get it), it's a personal favourite for singles, I use it all the time! With a single Speed Boost and a Focus Energy, it's able to land Critical hits for as long as it's on the field, it allows you to punch holes into your opponents team and defeat them within minutes. It also sweeps through the Battle Mansion like it's nothing. With its nature, it's even able to survive full head on Earth Quakes with Red HP.

I also had a Darkrai in my team with almost the exact same build, but instead of Protect, I used Nightmare to rack up extra damage with Bad Dreams.
Outside of Darkrai's setup and the fact that I had a Blaziken, the other members of my team escape me~

my first starter of all time was treecko, after i unlocked leaf blade taking down the majority of foes in the game became easy, i had a hard time with norman though and with groudon (before sceptile i tried using water moves against it...... i was very suprized when it didnt work considering its 2 weaknesses and for some reason sceptile no matter the amount of damage i did couldnt bring groudon down and he just restrest REST! back to full healt and i couldnt bring him down no matter how hard i tried)
