Thumbs up button feature?

Post by StardoostLegend on Sun Dec 06, 2015 7:16 pm

We should have a feature that will allow people to "like" or "dislike" posts, like they have on youtube and other social media places. what would you guys think?

I dislike the idea of a dislike button/negative rep button because it allows for very easy abuse against a person.

A like button/positive rep button is cool and is something that is usually standard for forums.

I dislike the thumbs up and thumbs down method in general. People will thumbs up or down a comment and think that's a large enough of criticism to not leave a comment as to why they were thumbed up or down. If you want to praise or criticize someone's post, make a post doing so instead of having a useless mechanic.

All of that and
The thumbs up feature is for the popularity contests. Which can easily be done by a poll.
Or them help providing websites or something. Lel

Putting in the Reputation feature might be a good thing but it might be a bad thing as well because people can give them a positive or negative without reason but people who do that are just assholes.

maybe a feature below each comment that says "Do you think this was helpful: Yes or no" or something like that perhaps? or would that have essentially the same effect, or maybe we can just put it on the original post, and not have any other comments on that post have the feature, just the main one

From previous experience using that feature, it's bad. If someone gets upset with a member, they are more than likely to go to ALL of their posts and vote Thumbs Down. It's best if we don't have this feature. Plus, it would make people to make a post to say if they like it or not like it. We need activity on the threads, not a 'Like' or 'Dislike' button.
