Chapter 1: White As Snow

Monday, January 4, 2016 was the move in day from the long winter break that the students had. Snow flurries were gently falling to earth, blanketing the world in white. A young student was walking leisurely on the side walk her black snow boots crunching the fresh powder leaving behind small foot prints. Her skinny jeans clung to her thin legs and her black pea-coat hid her shirt from the world. The dainty hands that the person possessed were stuffed in the pockets, balled up to keep warm. Golden orbs peered forward as they walked, taking in the beauty that the world had to offer. The young student's name was Ami-Ra. Ami-Ra Johnson. White steam flowed from her lips, her hot breath on cold air. Her lung burned with cold air. She always had a difficult time breathing in cold air since her surgery many years ago. The burning of her lung made her think back to the day she received horrible news.

Ami-Ra couldn't remember the exact day but it was nearing her and her twin sister Anna-Belle's birthday. They had just got back from the hospital because her sister was very, very sick. Just at the tender age of five, Anna-Belle had lung cancer. Even though she went through chemo-therapy, she had a small recovery chance. She needed a new lung. Ami-Ra was running the news through her head. Her best friend, her sister was going to die if she didn't get a new lung. Dinner was late that day and everyone at the table really wasn't eating or talking.

"Mummy?" Ami-Ra spoke up.

"Yes honey?" Her mother's gold eyes looked over to her daughter.

"How many lungs do I have?" She questioned.

Her mother looked a little confused and looked over to her husband who was now looking at the eldest twin.

"You have two, why do you ask?" Her father spoke up.

"Can I give one to Sissy?" She smiled sweetly at her parents. "The doctor said she needed a lung to live. I want to help Sissy. Can I do that?"

The twins' parents started to tear up. Their young daughter wanted to give a part of herself to save her best friend and sister. The next doctor appointment that was later that week, Ami-Ra brought up the idea of giving her lung saying she knew how to subtract and two minus one equaled one. The doctor showed a detailed poster of the respiratory system and showed the young girls where the lungs were. Ami-Ra pointed at a red organ that had red and blue veins covering it. She pointed it out and asked what that was. The doctor explained that's the heart.

Ami-Ra smiled, "I want to give Sissy the lung that's next to my heart. Because I love her."

Well, before I was babysitting a lot and I didn't have any inspiration to keep working. It's still a working process. I'll try to work on it and seeing how I have a massive case of insomnia, I might do that.
