Konami's Errata

[Flint]

The recent OCG Banlist has unbanned many old-school cards and has given them erratas to balance them out. These erratas range from good to down right terrible. After the reveal of the erratas I will voice my 2 cents on this.

Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. During the turn you activate this card’s effect, you cannot activate other effects. (1) Once per turn: You can pay 1000 LP; send all cards on the field and in both players’ hands to the Graveyard, then inflict 300 damage to your opponent for each of your opponent’s cards sent by this effect.

Ring of Destruction
You can only activate 1 “Ring of Destruction” per turn. (1) During your opponent’s turn: Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls whose ATK is lower than or equal to your opponent’s LP; destroy that face-up monster, and if you do, you take damage equal to that monster’s original ATK, then, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the damage you took.

Crush Card Virus
(1) Tribute 1 DARK monster you control with 1000 or less ATK; check your opponent’s hand and all monsters they control, and destroy all monsters with 1500 or more ATK, then, your opponent can destroy up to 3 monsters with 1500 or more ATK from their Deck. After you activated this card, all damage your opponent takes until the end of the next turn becomes 0.

Temple of the Kings
You can only use each effect of “Temple of the Kings” once per turn. (1) You can activate 1 Trap Card you control during the turn it is Set. (2) You can send both this card and 1 face-up “Mystical Beast Serket” to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 monster from your hand or Deck, or 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck.

Exchange of the Spirit
You can only activate 1 “Exchange of the Spirit” per Duel. (1) If each player has 15 or more cards in their Graveyard: Pay 1000 Life Points; both players swaps cards in their Decks with cards in their Graveyards, then shuffle the Decks.

Sinister Serpent
You can only use the effect of “Sinister Serpent” once per turn. (1) During your Standby Phase, if this card is in your Graveyard: You can add this card to your hand. During your opponent’s next End Phase, banish 1 “Sinister Serpent” from your Graveyard.

Now I'll voice what I think about these changes. The errata for Temple of the Kings isn't a bad errata. Activating 1 trap card the same turn it is set is still rather good. But that's the limit I can say for good erratas. All of the erratas, with the exception of Chaos Emperor Dragon, have destroyed these cards. No longer will they be played and ruled them same.

I hate this errataing, they are changing how the effects work and are ruled. If they wanted to make a nerfed version of the card they might as well make a new card not ruin old school cards. That's the point of Traditional. If you want to play broken/overpowered cards, go play in the Traditional section. But now anyone who wants to use these cards are going to have these nerfed, water-down effects that don't have the same effect and aren't ruled the same.

Not to mention this just ruins the effect for everyone; the effect is nerfed enough for people in the Advanced section not to run it and now people who want to play them in Traditional will no longer have the same effect. Chaos Emperor Dragon is still ridiculously strong; and it only make me wonder what will Konami do if it gets rebanned, will they re-errata the card and reprint it again? A great medium is for Konami to make a Traditional Circuit so people can play Traditional decks in a Traditional Circuit and Advanced format decks in the normal Circuit.

Cicada looked at this and has resigned from playing YuGiOh. He'll still be around on the academy from time to time posting news updates but for the general majority, he will not be playing the game itself. I myself despise these changes, if it comes over to the TCG then I think I might do the same. I loved Synchros and Xyzs, Pendulums I can deal with but these changes will be the end of me. And I'm almost certain that it will come over to the TCG considering Dark Strike Fighter got its errata, reprint and put at 1 in the January 1, 2015 banlist from Konami. You'll still see me on MADA and Dueling Network though, I just won't be enjoying these changes to a game I loved so dearly.

while i agree that they should make new versions of the cards instead of changin the old ones i think quiting the game is VERY extreme, to me a true duelist learns to adapt to the current game, nothing against you (or cicada) but i think your overacting a LOT by quiting the game for this, but if that is your desicion i wont try to stop you

I'm not the one who complains often and I am a person who adapts to his surroundings; but this is an extreme action by Konami and a terrible action at that. I'm not fully quitting YuGiOh, I'm just distancing myself from the gamestate. Cicada is going cold turkey. I'm going from a normal YuGiOh player to more of a casual player. Basically, I won't be dueling as much but I'm not quitting.

Well, the wind of change blow straight , well, (again XD) CED isn't so OP as before because your opponent only take damage from he's cards, but it's still op
