NEW Pokemon Updates - 01/08/2016

Post by !~Rabbit~! on Mon Aug 01, 2016 8:04 am

Today - The Pokemon Company released a content-filled trailer for their new games Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. The trailer is absolutely filled to the brim with new content, revealing new forms for classic Pokemon, new Pokemon altogether, 'PokeRides' which seem to be a solution and a possible end to HMs, new content regarding the story, and finally - Z-moves. Below, I have posted the link to the trailer from which I have gotten my information from. If you don't want to watch that, I'm also going to make a written summary for each new section in this trailer.

Aloha Pokemon

Aloha Pokemon seem to be new variations of classic Kanto Pokemon redesigned with new typings and a new look - as well as new abilities. The current Aloha Pokemon we know of are:
Exeggutor - Grass/Dragon with the ability Frisk
Vulpix and Ninetales - Ice and Ice/Fairy with the ability Snow Cloak
Sandshrew and Sandslash - Ice/Steel with the ability Snow Cloak

Designs to each of the new forms are available From this point in the trailer.

New Pokemon

We also have new Pokemon altogether. There are a few new Abilities as well - all of which are talked about in the trailer - however as this is a summary, I'll provide the point at which the new Pokemon abilities are given towards the end of this part in the topic instead of explaining fully. With that being said - the new Pokemon are:

Oricoro - Oricoro is an X-Type/Flying depending on which island you are on. Oricoro can either be a Fire/Flying, Electric/Flying, Psychic/Flying, or Ghost/Flying type - and will have the ability 'Dancer' - which copies the stat boosts of an opponents 'Dance' move.

Minor - Minor is a Rock/Flying type with the ability 'Shields Down'. 'Shields Down' makes the Pokemon change its form after hit by an attacking move. The new form goes from also has four different colours - which may suggest a similarity between itself and Oricoro - as they both may be found on all four main islands - having a unique style for each island.

Gumshoos - Gumshoos is the final form of Yungoos. Gumshoos is a normal type with the abilities Strong Jaw and Stakeout.

Fomantis and Lurantis - Fomantis and Lurantis are two new Grass type Pokemon. Fomantis is at evolution stage one - while Lurantis is at evolution stage two - presumably being Fomantis' final evolution. The pokemon both have the ability Leaf Guard - and also have a new move known as Solar Blade.

Mudbray - Mudbray is the first evolution for the Pokemon Mudsdale. Mudbray is a Ground Type with the abilities Own Tempo and Stamina.

The point in the video where this all is mentioned starts here.

'PokeRides' have been around since Kalos - but only up until now have you been able to use them selectively - I.e - using Mamoswine to get through a snow-blocked path or Latios/Latias to fly around the Hoenn region without the use of the HM fly.

In the new Pokemon games, PokeRides seem to be heavily included. In the scenes we see - we can depict the protagonist riding Pokemon such as Tauros, Mudsdale, Sharpedo, and flying on the back of a Charizard (obviously an extra large Charizard, considering how small those guys actually are.). This could potentially mean we don't need to use HMs as much in this game - a thought which excites me greatly.

You can see the PokeRides in action here.

Story Progression

We can also see some development into the Story in the trailer through the "Island Challenge" which is supposed to be some sort of "Rite of passage" that the trainer must go through to progress through the story.

In the "Island Challenge" - our Protagonist is seemingly supposed to go to each island to meet with a 'Trial Captain' who specialises in a particular Pokemon. There is a captain for the four main types - Fire, Water, Grass, and Electricity. The captains each give our Protagonist a challenge to which they must complete. During the island challenge - our Protagonist will also face 'Totem Pokemon' - of whom are stat boosted Pokemon who are able to call upon other Pokemon to help them in their fight. At the end of the trial - you also face a 'Kahula' - who is seemingly the leader of the island.

Looking at the Seribi Article on this - they are able to explain things much clearer than I could after looking through the trailer multiple times to see what I could find on Z-Moves. Because of this - I'll allow their article to explain more clearly.

"Z-Moves are utilising the special bracelet that trainers have. The Z-Ring fits on a Trainer’s arm, and Z-Crystals are set into it. If a Pokémon holds the same variety of Z-Crystal, the two will be able to resonate with one another. Crystals that correspond to each Pokémon type have been found in the Alola region. There are two conditions for performing Z-Moves: a Pokémon must learn a move of the same type as a Z-Crystal, and it must be holding the corresponding Z-Crystal. When you see these moves in action in the game, each overwhelmingly powerful move will be on full display, filling the entire screen! A special bit of merchandise for a Z-Ring will also be released which will light up in tandem with use on Sun & Moon" - - 01/08/2016

If you want to look at the new Z-Moves in the trailer, click here. Personally, I find the dance the trainer uses for the water-type Z-attack to be hilarious.

That's all I really have for the new Pokemon Sun and Moon updates. I'll be sure to post more information if it comes out. But all the same - this recent update has left me really excited for the new games. Personally, my favourite part about this is the fact that there are new forms of classic Pokemon - my favourite, of course, being the Ice version of Ninetails.
