Professors' Syllabi
Hello MADA, Spensyr here with an important announcement. After our end-of-month Admin meeting, we've come up with several new ideas to implement into our lovely forum. So with no more adieu, let's get right into our first (and possibly biggest) announcement: Lessons!
First off, Teachers are now known as Professors. (Sounds a little nicer for an Academy.)
Starting this month, our Professors, (Zaio Volnutt, Akaneia, RogueShadow, and Jackachu100), will be mapping out a six week educational schedule. These syllabi will give a summarized idea of what to expect from their lessons, homework assignments, and exams for the next six week term. The lessons you choose to cover are up to you, so long as half of your covered material is “general YuGiOh! Education” such as game mechanics and rulings, and the other half being related to your dorm.
An example of such a syllabus is provided below
- Example Syllabus:
Week 1: Intro to (Extra Deck Type) Summon
-Explains the basics of the type of summon, gives examples of the various ways that type can be played.
-HW #1: Build a deck that uses (Monster name) and summon that card in a duel.
Week 2: The Difference in Summons
-Covers the three basic forms of summoning: Normal/Set, Flip, and Special.
-HW #2: Group Discussion on the importance of knowing how cards were summoned.
Week 3: Spell Speed
-Talk about how Spell Speed works, discuss Chaining and Chain Resolution
-Midterm: Exam covering all three weeks covered so far.
Midterm Grade given
Week 4: History of (Extra Deck Type)
-Discussion of the various Decks in the game that have focused on the Extra Deck type
-HW #3: Win a duel using one of the decks discussed in the lesson.
Week 5: Timing
-Go over the various moments when a card can Miss the Timing and how to avoid this.
-HW #4: Write a paragraph explaining a scenario in which a card can miss its timing. Submit via PM
Week 6: (Extra Deck Type) and You
-Cover any material you feel necessary. Review the past five weeks. Q&A with students.
-Final Exam.
Final Grades given.
(Note the lesson ideas here are mere suggestions and can be up to the professor entirely so long as it still covers the amount of material required.)
Letter Grading System
We won’t be using the general grading from schools (A-F) but instead have simplified it down to three grades: S, M, and A.
S Rank, Sorcerer level. (85% - 100%)
M Rank, Magician Level (66% - 84%)
A Rank, Apprentice level (0% - 65%)
These grades are giving for exams and homework as well as classroom participation. For the final grade, you would average following grades: [Participation | Midterm | Homework(s) | Final Exam]
Credit to: Zaio Volnutt, Sir Derpsalot, and Linty for a majority of these ideas.
