3 Guilty Pleasure Decks

Post by Flint on Tue Feb 23, 2016 5:26 pm

Decks that you didn't expect to like and know of a large group of players that despise the deck, and you still enjoy playing it. Every deck has a large group of players that hate it but some decks catch that hate more than others.

My guilty pleasure decks are:

1. Chain Burn
2. Monarch
3. Graydle

---

1. This one is the most obvious of the bunch. Lack of monsters, all backrow and use of quick stalling like Scapegoat or Wabouku. Even then, I still love comboing backrow with this deck. Although with a lot of despise to the deck, and because Denko exists, I've been holding off from using it.

2. This isn't a normal Monarch deck, it's a Monarch deck that predated the support, this card is an old style of Monarch with Caius, Jizno, Majesty and Vanity's Fiend, Battle Fader and Monarch Stormforths. So it mostly takes use of the opponent's monsters as tribute fodder and quick stalls with Battle Fader.

3. I'll be honest, I didn't have a third choice so I put Graydle. This deck isn't a guilty pleasure at all, I completely expected to love this deck when I first saw it. Although I put it on here for the sole purpose that I didn't have a third choice and I put a deck that is met with hate. I can see why people hate this deck with the normal or Kaiju variant that's used. No one likes getting their monsters Snatched, except me.

Oh this is nifty.

1. Exodia
2. Lightsworn
3. Malefic-Drain

=========
1. Yes, Exodia. And I don't mean RML OTK. F*** that shit. I'm referring to the older style that actually took time and required interaction from the opponent to make it happen.

2. Lightsworn are a deck that are commonly hated for a plethora of reasons, but its a deck I still love them.

3. SKill Drain.dek is another deck that gets a lot of negativity, and the Malefic variant is not exception. My preference was the build that added "The Seal of Orichalcos" for that extra f*** you.

Ah lovely. Let's see now...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

1. Skill Drain
2. Monarchs
3. Igknights

---

1. I have so many fond memories with this card. Whenever I wanted to slowly torture someone or when I'm full of sheer hatred towards the meta or specific dragons in particular. Decks based around Skill Drain like Malefics, Barbaros, new age Archfiends and whatnot were my absolute favourite thing. Theres a certain point or time in my life where you become sick of all them dragons like Black Rose Dragon and Judgement Dragon get constantly and consistently dropped on me and I had enough. This card honours old fashioned nostalgia play of absolute barbaric brute force and beat face methods. I like beating face. With Skill Drain I bring judgement upon them. Not the other way around. While I slowly feast upon their very life force...

2. Heh. Old fashioned Monarchs? New age Monarchs? I don't even differentiate between them at all. Everyone always hated them and I take absolute pleasure in that. I've always loved all the Monarch styles from the very beginning. Its a totally different feeling like yo are king looking down upon those who dare defy him or something. Imperial wrath and judgement at its finest. An archetype that clearly looks like tis tired of everyone's bs. Face my imperial judgement!

3. Igknights. Cute, right? All everyone sees in Igknights is as a stupid old engine. I've played Igknights from the very beginning since I found their concept absolutely cool. Knights who field gunblades. Named and designed after actual guns. Warrior types at that too. I just really REALLY love everything about Igknights. Everyone hates Igknights for their pop themselves to search effect. Which when combined with Royal Magical Library become absolutely retarded. My favourite vanilla pendulms really. Love their flavour texts too. I play rank spam decks a lot and Igknights can help do this very efficiently. Standalone, with Igknight archetype support cards and their boss monsters (which people don't even know exists) one can use them not just as an engine, but as a pure archetype that doesn't even need to XYZ to function properly. I know I know my turn might take forever but it ain't as bad as Spellbooks XD

I like Igknights myself. Just never called them a deck since they're really not a deck on their own.

1. Herald of Perfection: If I can take an educated guess what my opponent might be doing when I summon Herald of Perfection, probably the first thing is a sigh of disappointment. Regardless of what people think, I enjoy playing this deck a lot and all of it's small Fairy variants.
2. Evilswarm: Same with Herald of Perfection, I expect most of my opponents to sigh of disappointment as soon as they see Ophion hit the board. Even then, I find the deck extremely fun to use. They have great search ability and a really great protection spell card.
3. Constellar: Pleiades and M7 make opponents dislike the deck especially if they're using a deck that uses Fusions, Synchros or Xyz, since it just very easily bounces back monsters. Pleiades in particular I see people find more annoying, being that it can be activated on either player's turn.

1: Blackwing. YES I KNOW. It's my favorite deck, and some say it is a fan favorite. However. I've come across more people in my time that despise these beautiful, loveable birds than those that mutually hold them dear. Hell, I think most of the Yugioh community hate Blackwings AND their players.
2: Monarch.
My second favorite deck of all time, ironic, I know. Guilty pleasure for obvious reasons
3: Chain Burn.

#1 Necloths. Reviving the ritual mechanic much. This deck for me in it's prime was very fun to play as everything tutored for another card. The otk attempts were amazing as well as the control aspect with cards like Unicore, and the mighty Djinn lock.

#2 Speed Demons. New Infernity anyone. This deck has recently been one of my unholy creations as people have started calling it the new Infernity with it's 6-7 XYZ plays in a turn once it goes off. With being able to search out protection cards like Fogblade as well as attack modifying cards like Phantom Sword and Wings you can either expect to lock this deck down or be watching as this deck combos and otk's you so fast. With 3 engines that work very well together that being the Phantom Knights themselves the Speedroids to add that extra power and the Burning Abyss to allow for my spam and control with cards like Farfa paving the way for fairly easy otk's.

#3 Burning Abyss. Demons!!!!! This deck has been one of my rogue/meta choices since the mighty Necloths were hit. With this deck floating like it can it's no wonder people hate facing it. A card like Fire Lake can be a game changer vs rogue choices as you can completely blow them out. This deck also plays tons of backrow to respond to your opponent with. With a play style of controlling the way your opponent makes decisions and being able to follow that up with easy otk's I have this deck as one of my pleasure decks.

1: Nekroz
I f**king hated this deck during the time it was meta, it was really powerful and I didn't like it, I then decided to play it, I f**king loved it when I understood how to play it, it's a really fun deck to play. Sadly after they got hit hard, I no longer play the archetype
2: Kozmo
I heard this deck was in the meta, people said it was really powerful, I decided to give it a try, and I sorta liked the concept of just banishing monsters to summon something bigger, though it does seem a bit broken, it's not that bad to play against, I don't play this deck often, and when I do, I sorta enjoy it
3: Yosenju
I really hated this deck too, but then here comes the same story with Nekroz and I fell in love with it, seriously though, I love to f**k with people with this archetype
